am i right in thinking any 12 spd eagle shifter will work with any eagle rear mech ?
so a gx eagle 12 speed shifter with a sx mech ?

Yes. They’re the same spacing between gears, it’s just that on the cheaper cassettes they don’t have a 10t cog so that they can fit on HG freehubs.
GX mech seems to be the sweet spot in terms of durability/value.
