Spoke snapped the other week and left most of the threaded end in the nipple. Running tubeless so would love to avoid the hassle with the sealant/rim tape etc. Anyone got any special tricks I could try to remove the end of the broken spoke from inside the nipple?

Pretty sure I'll have to do the whole rim tape thing again but worth a try to ask first!

Cheers

Needle nose pliers and a spoke key should do it.
If you can't get the spoke out of the nipple just cut the tape above the spoke hole and tape back over the hole when you've finished.

Id guess a spoke key won't allow you to get a tool in to grip the spoke.

Narrow adjustable spanner and small molegrips

If there is no part of the spoke sticking outside the nipple then you're better off just going the direct route and replace the nipple with the attendant tubeless hassle.

Otherwise for more hassle, if you have a friend who builds engineering models (or a dentist), and a very steady hand, you can drill into the spoke and use a tiny screw extractor. Once you've broken off the screw extractor in the spoke embedded in the nipple, then proceed to method one, the direct route. 🙂

Plenty of room to get some needle noise pliers in there if theres any spoke sticking out the top of the nipple.

Unfortunately no spoke sticking out of the nipple.....I think I'm stuck with the painful method of retaping!
