I will be staying soon in Bassenthwaite for a week and wondering if there any rides i can do without the car, also possibly get a GPX for as I'm hopeless with maps/directions.

I'm happy to do/try anything from suitable for beginners through to more advanced stuff

BTW I've already done the whinlatter trail centre

Thanks
Christian

Yes mate, you've got all of Skiddaw to go at from there. Round the back and past the falls, up the front of the mountain and down the same way or via Ullock Pike if you're feeling more adventurous.

Here's a bump and a gpx for the route I've described above for Ullock Pike.

Cheers chaps. What are the descents like for Ullock? i suspect super rocky?
Are the climbs rideable on this GPX?

Are you staying in Bass village or elsewhere?

yes rocky and steep. and yes you will be pushing your bike up Skiddaw, it's a goddam mountain. Allow about 1.5-2hrs to get to the top from the bottom.
Here's some youtube footage of Ullock, my god it looks fun. I chickened out of descending that way last time as the bike I was on was a hire bike that was unsuitable.

Definitely some Skiddaw stuff.
Have a look on the map of Bass. - there's a Bway takes you over Binsey towards Peter house farm @ foot of Dash falls.
Wythop/Sale fell is also good for a quick blast.
More to whinlatter than the red & blues. - bonus climb from Thornthwaite for example. 😉

edit ...take dry socks. 🙂

With the GPX I've linked above it could actually be two routes.
If you're planning on doing Ullock do it clockwise, that way you'll end up near enough in Bassenthwaite. If you just fancy a bit of XC and not going up the mountain then anti clockwise would be great as then you'll get the descents on Lonscale fell and past the waterfall (whitewater dash). You'll see where the path up the mountain is dead easy as it's a flat path followed by about a 15% incline, it's literally like a wall. Be careful on Lonscale rocks as people have died. 🙂

There's also a longer XC route called 'back o' Skiddaw' that traverses bridleways from the yha and loops back round. A quick Google search doesn't reveal it but if you have an OS map it should be fairly obvious as it's all legal cycling byways.

Have a look on the map of Bass. – there’s a Bway takes you over Binsey towards Peter house farm @ foot of Dash falls.

Rode that a few yers back and IIRC it was a bit of a slog through grassy fields with many gates to peter House farm, but then the path up to dash falls is fine.  Think the 'back o skiddaw' route then went Skiddaw House, Mosedale, Calebreck, Fell, Side, Longlands then back to Peter House - IIRC we just took the road back to Bass from there rather than trudge through the fields again, so maybe take the road out too?

Great eh?! 😊
Good as a return to bass if you go round the back of skiddaw.
Great sca fell is an option but will be unpleasant bog trot to get there at the moment I’m sure.
