Hello all,

Thought I'd ask the STW hive mind about this.

I'm looking for a bike helmet for my little girl, who's 11 months old now, for going on a bike-seat to nursery.

The smallest helmet thus far is a specialized small fry (44+ cm), but it still moves around on her head, even though her head measures 46cm.

So, any suggestions for a suitable small childs bike helmet?

Also, would she be safer with a helmet that's slightly too large, or none at all? Given she'll be strapped in I'd think she'd be better with than without...

Cheers,
Keith

We got a total bargain Met one from On One for a tenner. It looks ace, fits young monsieur a treat and might just do the trick.

It was this one: (other more girly colour schemes are available too!)

It has a really good dial head band thing that adjusts quickly and easily to fit. Our son's head is also 46cmish and it fits really well.

i got a nice giro one from my LBS. its got planes on.

its an interesting exercise getting it on. son has a complete meltdown as soon as you put it on, stops as soon as you pedal. i'm down to about 5 seconds to put it on and start pedalling...

Strange the small fry doesn't fit - I got my 11mth old one, he measured 45cm and it fits dialled right in (but looks very big on him!!)

There are two versions of the small fry toddler and child make sure you have the toddler version as the fit is different

My daughter has a small head as well and we struggled to find one small enough. In the end found that a Raleigh Rascal worked as they do it in XXS

My 2 both have smaal fry's. I just whacked in some extra pads at first to pad it out a bit. Worked a treat but I'm sure I'm about to get flamed. 😀

Small fry now on the second one. Lovely met one for the biggun. Looks like a proper grown up helmet.

The worst bit with a 1 yo is getting the straps set right. Nuclear meltdown time. He also hates putting it on but once on and rolling all smiles (or snores) pretty quiet.
