I'm currently using Deore disc brakes on my commuter and they've been fantastic for a good while. I (foolishly it seems) decided to give the brakes an overhaul recently and installed some new pads as part of the process. The new pads are Clarks organic ones (Clarks Shimano Deore M515-M525-Tektro Disc Pads). Initially and in dry conditions they were tickety boo and all was well in my commuting world. A spot of rain however (an ever more common occurrence in Edinburgh at this time of year) and they've become banshee-like when I haul on the anchors and are just winding me up in a major way. I concede that I was seduced by the CRC cheapness for the pads but I would happily pay a bit more for a return to the silent sojourn that I've come to enjoy when crossing town if necessary. Do any of you have experience of pads that are good and quiet in the wet?
To be honest I dont think there is any one brand that everyone says is quiet.
All I can say is the sintered Uberbike pads I have on my DB5's runs nice and quite.
Reasonable price too, really.
Uberbike Race Matrix pads are superb (in my experience anyway).
Very powerful, quiet, fade-free and long-lasting.
Superstar Organics for me. cheap and good. Orginal avid pads were noisy in th dry, deafening in the wet. SS organics don't squeal at all in the dry, make a little bit of noise in the damp/wet. Don't last as long, but are less than a third of the price.
Superstar organic pads here, ^what he said.
