Hi

Need a new saddle and want to spend about £50 max. Wondering if anyone had any suggestions for ones that are better for longer mtb rides.

Cheers all.

Charge ones get good reviews, or get measured up for a Specialized, Fizik Gobi suits me.

Another Fizik Gobi vote. They ain't £50 though, although you can usually find deals at around that cost if you look around.

Fizik Tundra for me. I definitely don't get on with spoon/scoop shapes.

I've got a pro logo scratch on my road bike and it's really comfy, they make mtb saddles to.
Definately worth a look

I prefer flatter ones and Prologo Kappa has been really good for about three years. Just recently it has started creaking but that is pretty good run since SDG's have lasted barely a year.

Seems that the Kappa is updated though, no idea if the new one is any good.

Gobi's on all my bikes, love them.

Hate the Tundra.

Only way to be sure is to do a long ride on one.

Have a look at the Fizik website, they do a rough guide to the type of butt you have - type of seat recomendation.

SDG BelAir
Charge Spoon

Both work well for my derrière.

Charge Spoon didn't work for me. But Prologo Nago was good.

You've really got to see if you can demo one if you can. I think Specialized do it?

Also good quality, well fitting bib shorts really help.

I like flat and thin so the WTB Silverado is ideal for me.

Long rides are about looking after yourself, sure ill fitting kit isn't going to help but if you aren't getting a sore backside after 30Km then the saddle's not going to be too far from being correct.

I've found quality shorts or bib shorts to be at least as important as the saddle itself, currently I'm using some Assos bib shorts. I've also found that tilting the saddle slightly forward (by about 5deg) helps avoid damaging the softer bits(!), don't tilt it too much though or you'll be putting extra pressure on your hands.

Plenty of butt cream and if the ride is multi day then dry your crotch down and give yourself a bit of air overnight.

Depends on the size and texture of your arse region, the position of your sit bones, how much flab and muscle surrounds them etc. So finding the perfect mix of clothing and saddle is pot luck, really.

I get on well with charge spoons but found the wtb volt to be similar but slightly flatter which works better for me

Always got on really well with the Fizik Gobi on the mtb. I also have the tundra but rather firm ,though strangely the Arione is a similar shape and that's what works for me on the road bike, I guess mostly due to being in the drops more.
Standard fit Prologo nago on the new mtb has just been replaced with a Fabric Scoop radius.

I have a Fizik Gobi and it was a huge improvement over the Madison Flux I had before. However when I did a big, non-technical ride with lots of sat down pedalling, it showed its less comfy side. Just to put this in context I ride road too so am well used to long mileage sat down.

Probably doesn't help the OP at all 😆

I just got a Selle SMP saddle for my CX bike, it's so comfy I'm considering giving it a go on the mountain bike too.

Cheers for replies - useful. Essentially I need a new saddle but don't have any noticeable issues (bum wise) with current one, so whilst I thought I may change/uppgrde there's probably no reason to based on all the responses...
