looking to change my fork to go on 26" wheeled bike. however at some point in the next few years i'll probably change my frame as well, at which point it will most likely be a 27.5 (more choice). so to avoid future additional cost of having to change fork as well, is there any reasons not to buy a 27.5 fork now and stick it on my current bike. looking at going from old float 36 160 RLC (26") to new Float 36 160 RC2 (27.5"). due to the redesign last year it will only increase axle to crown height by 4mm which i cant see having any meaningful effect on the bikes handling, or am i wrong / missing something else (other than it looking a bit odd with smaller wheels on a bigger fork)?

You'll end up with more mud clearance too.

To be honest, the only worry is a possible change in offset, but again that's minor

Question comes up a lot...simple answer: go for it.

FWIW I've run Pike 27.5 on my Remedy 26" for past year with no probs

Stop thinking numbers, just get the forks. You won't notice anything!

Has old bike got a tapered head tube? More than likely a new fork will have a tapered steerer

i reckon youre right, bit i like a little bit of pouring over the numbers, plays to my OCD side

yep, current fork has tapered steerer and frame has 49mm straight head tube so can fir anything in there

I think the real question is why dont I buy a new bike

i don't know, whats stopping you?? for me its the combined cost of frame, wheels and fork coming to several thousand pound which is not achievable at the moment (trust me, i've tried)
