The Polaris Challenge re-introduced the full event (with overnight camp) last year, so I signed up and had a great time (brought back a lot of painful, but happy memories).

It has been re-branded as OMM Bike this year, but apart from on the OMM site I have not see or heard anything about the event. Even there the details are a bit brief.

It was an ok turn-out last year, but it feels to me like it is dead. Anyone on here heard anything about this years event or planning on doing it?

I spoke to Stu Hamilton a couple of weeks back and it's been brought forward from last years event to 18th and 19th of May and it's in the Peak District (don't know where).

Back in the Peak District again. How exciting.

Last year Askrigg area was brilliant. As the Peak District is my local ride I'm a bit disappointed about the location too. Great area, but not ideal for Polaris IMO. If the number of entries on the OMM site are correct a podium finish is achievable for me this year.

I did my first Polaris event in 1992, still got the T shirt.

Yes, painful and happy memories!

Nope it's in the Peaks for sure. The Brecon Beacons is one of the OMM running events.

Did it last year really enjoyed it and was all set to go again this year but if it is in the Peaks I am not so sure. It would be too tempting to stay at home and just ride each day. Having said that I don't want to pay £60 to ride the trails I ride all the time anyway.
2011 was in the Peaks and seemed to use all my usuals so might save the money and do the September two day Scottish MBO event in the Tweed valley although I appreciate there is no o/night camp

The peak district again!

I want to be riding across a featureless moor that I've never ridden before, slogging up a climb wondering how much further to the top, riding downhills on instinct rather than familiarity, waking up at morning camp to be amazed at the surroundings. Repeatedly holding the Polaris in the Peak District is very disappointing.

The Polaris is my favourite event of the year. I was so pleased they ran a proper event at Askrigg last Autumn. And although I raced hard all weekend the biggest sensation was of taking part in a big adventure.

An adventure is an exciting or unusual experience; it may also be a bold, usually risky undertaking, with an uncertain outcome. Hard to achieve this when the event is repeatedly held in the same location.

My Autumn Polaris write up is here

Two day SMBO event in the Tweed Valley that sounds much more adventurous. Thanks FOG
