The ongoing quest for MrsMC's next bike has come back to a rigid 24" model, and this seems to tick both our lists of requirements.

It's the stand over causing me the biggest headaches - she's only 4'10" and needs a low top tube as she can't swing her leg over a saddle and needs to be able to step through over the top tube.

So if anyone has one, can you measure the lowest point of the top tube, where it meets the seat tube for me please? Then I can compare it to her current bike.

Cheers.

Hi, measured my sons bike, it's 542mm I think from the ground to the lowest point (top) of the top tube.

Assuming tyre OD is accurate, 545mm from a frame drawing. The Pinnacle Kauri 26" mtb is within a few mm of the same height at that point but the head tube end of the TT is higher, more slope after the curved section.
Edit, as above from acjim, posted while I looked up the drawing between ad breaks : )

As you're here, Jameso, quick hijack if you don't mind. I'm looking for the next size up from my lads Isla Beinn24. Most manufacturers 24" bikes are quite a lot bigger than the Isla, but I was hoping to get him onto something like the Kauri26 or Bonaly 26. Sadly not near a shop to try- he's a tall 8 year old. Do you reckon he might get on one of those 2? Can I find minimum height/inseam measurements somewhere? Cheers.

TomB, the Kauri should have a min/max saddle height and standover chart on the Evans site, not uploaded yet tho. Here's the text from the pdf, pretty sure the Bonaly 26 already has a similar guide on the Evans site.

Age 10 to 13
Height Range cm 143 to 155cm
Height Range inches 4' 8" to 5'1"
Saddle height min/max, from BB 500/610mm
Saddle will drop lower but due to low frame design and saddle to tyre clearance needed, lower than approx 500mm is not recommended
1 Effective Top Tube 515
2 Seat Tube Length (C-T) 325
3 Head Tube Length 110
4 BB Drop 63
5 Chainstay Length 425
6 Front Centre 592
7 Seat Angle 73.0
8 Head Angle 69.5
9 Fork Length 420
10 Fork Offset 56
11 Reach 344
12 Stack 553
13 Standover 633

tbh the age range is a bit of a guess-guide. The height / frame dims are more useful if you know roughly what would work.

jameso - Kauri looks really nice, shame my eldest is starting to get into bikes from my spare parts now! Just need to find him a tiny v-brake frame for next year.
