Random I know but doing a project bike for my 3yr old lad. The BB cup is seized and it’s the oval 36mm slot type. My adjustable spanner won’t work. I appreciate I can buy a proper tool for £15 but don’t expect to ever need a 36mm spanner again!

On the off chance someone local has one that would be awesome. Cheers very much

Good luck getting that off.

Heat and a vice might be more use.

Can you not just pack it with grease and new bearings?

Is there enough room to clamp it in a vice and turn the frame. That tends to be the most successful way to loosen and old, siezed bottom bracket.

Park tool HCW-4 would be ideal

having a similar dilemma, I just found an adjustable in B&M that goes up to 55mm for less than £7
and stanley do one that does 65mm for the same price but I dont recall where

Thanks all. Want to remove it so the frame can be powder coated.

Vice clamp tomorrow me thinks!

I'd go with vice and a bit of warming with a hot air gun.

If you go the spanner or HCW-4 tool then use a g-clamp and some bits of wood to clamp the spanner on so it can't slip off. I've got loads of 36mm spanners at work but unfortunately too far away to be of assistance.

Thanks all. Found that my adjustable wrench just keeps slipping.

Heat - should I heat the cup itself or the BB shell itself?

Obvious I know, but you are turning it the correct direction?
