Hi All,

I've been looking at bikes around £1400, had some advice already including a cube currently listed in the classifieds which looks nice.

I've seen a bike from Decathlon but I can't seem to find any reviews anywhere. Do they make poor bikes etc? The spec looks pretty good for the price compared to other brands. I'm just getting back into riding after 10 years so just want a good solid all round bike.

The bike is the new ROCKRIDER 29"ALL MOUNTAIN MOUNTAIN BIKE AM 100S
https://www.decathlon.co.uk/29-mountain-bike-am-100s-id_8586941.html

Dropper seat
ROCKSHOX 35 fork with 150mm travel
Manitou McLeod Air 190X51 rear shock
SRAM NX drive train, 1x12 single chainwheel
SRAM LEVEL T brakes: 4 front and two rear pistons, 180 mm front disc, 160 mm rear disc.
Sun Ringle Duroc 30 wheels, with Boost axles, 15 mm at the front and 12 mm at the back

My mate just bought the short travel carbon one and it's pretty awesome for the price.
A couple of annoyances like the grip lockout (for the one he got) and he sold the brakes "as new" and replaced before riding it. He's very pleased.

I can't see why the longer travel one would not be as good for the money...if you can get one in your size. They seem to be almost loss making flagships...

I only had a short go so far as he's been using it for longer rides with SPD's and I've been wearing flats but I took it over a fair sized step-up last weekend when he had flats on. I also lifted it over a tree a couple of weekends ago and it is nice and light. (I was comparing to my own carbon HT with 32's and was surprised)

Very good value, like any 'big box' in house brand (I mean proper, eg: Boardman @ Halfords) there may be a bit of snob value but I've been impressed whenever I've looked at them in store and on specs. It won't pass muster in some eyes against the Santa Cruz's being unloaded from the Audis, but that might be a good thing 😉

And most importantly - can you get hold of it now-ish. cos I'd rather have something I can ride now than something exotic just in time for the crap weather to come back.

Looks good for the price, the 500 looks great though for £1700. Shame they're out of stock, wonder if they have any in stores?

Very limited... as above not sure these are "for profit".
If you check the French site they show stock store by store and it's pretty slim.

I was in decathlon yesterday, the bike bit was empty, no bikes at all and only a small amount of equipment left

Isn’t there an oddity with the wheels? Strange standard?

The rest of the 'bikes bit' in a specific store is nearly irrelevant. Even the largest french decathalon "super cycling centres" only have a max of 1 per size of the premium (nothing to do with Covid) and most don't have any or only 1-2 sizes so either you need to find a store with stock and drive or find one UK web. (You can't get delivery from Europe though you can of course drive to a store)
Last time I checked Lille (cycling HQ for Decathalon) didn't have full stock and my mate waited 6mo or so from pre-Covid for stock in a L "premium" to be in stock on the web

I got the short travel XC900s so the carbon front and alloy rear I got it last year and have to say it's a ace bike. Very happy with it at the time I was looking at Scott Spark, Orbea Oiz but just couldn't justify paying more and took a risk on it. When I went to pick up the bike I was oh that looks a lot nicer than the pics. It's been a great bike for local trails not had a chance yet to go to Wales but can see it being fine.

I would say that bike be ace fun with a slacker HA.

A friend of mine had one of their full suss bikes back in the days of 26" wheels, and it was very good for the money.

There is an mbr review of the AM100S on the web. Sounds like it was ok but that they'd picked the wrong wheel size (that one could take 27, 27.5 and 29" wheels).

I've had a stock alert set up on a few of their bikes and it seems there is a steady trickle, you have to be quick if you get alerted but then they seem to come back in again within a few weeks.

What strange standard jsync? My 900S has fairly standard looking Mavic Crossmax wheels....

It's a new bike I think hence no reviews!

Decathlon always score well for Value I don't think they make a bad bike

If you slide through the images there's a geo chart.

I see nothing to complain about....

Actually I'd want to swap the 34t Chainring for a 30 if you ride mountains.

Wheels are just normal boost as far as i can see?

Looks like a bargain.

They're ok bikes, good value for money. A mate of mine has a 10 year old Rockrider hardtail which has been through several component changes but the frame is still perfectly sound and going strong.

Yeah that’s an absolute steal for £1400. Geometry not quite as long and slack as some options but nothing wrong with it.
My wife still rides her 2006 btwin hardtail.

Guarantee :

Lifetime (frame, stem, handlebar).

That's far better than a lot of "high end bikes"
