Just found out my job is being moved to milton keynes. Is there any good riding near there or do i look for another job? Currently live near derby and have some ace doorstep trails so would like to find similar but think it will be unlikely.

You have Chicksands/Woburn Sands just down the road. Failing that just go snowboarding at the snowdome in MK.

Loads of quality stuff. Different to the Peaks! but good all year round riding. Woburn was built on sand you see, but when it's drier it opens up links to Chicksands and Miilbrook and all the surrounding areas.
A quick drive will take you to Ashridge which is basically a whole other area of riding around the northern end of the Ridgeway.
You also have Wendover Woods/Aston Hill nearby, better when dry because of it's chalk content.
And loads of smaller niche? areas in between.
There are plenty of informal groups that meet around Woburn on Sunday from 7am to 10am.
My lot also ride every Tuesday night from Stockgrove Park near Heath & Reach.
Some of the trails require permits, this is were the clubs come in handy. It's because a lot of the stuff is owned by the Duke of Bedford.
It's also a great place to ride road and there are clubs every few yards!! If you race (or want to) you can twice weekly at the MK Bowl. I race there in the Vets league.
XC racing is catered for by the FNSS with one stage at the Bowl next month, it's hoot.
Just ping a post on here if you need a meet, though I'm out with hurted ribs at the mo.

Cheers Oldgit, not as bad as it loks on google earth then. D-day is 2-3 years away so a lot can happen in that time.

i'd look for another job to be honest.

only doorstep riding is Woburn which whilst being good fun is fairly limited.

there is no PROPER riding outside Wales south of where you live now so you'll end up travelling north all the time.

And Milton Keynes is (in my opinion) a truly awful place

Just shows how wrong you can be

I am tempted to give the FNSS round at the bowl a bit of a crack. Raced it a few years ago and managed to crash so I need to give it another try.

Hey man, look for another job! How realistic is that?

I use to rock climb and the difference between MTB and climbing is huge

In MK you can't go rock climbing period, realisatically its a 2 hour drive minimuim. But you can go off road cycling. No one is claiming its as good as the peak. But you can get in from work and go for a blast on your bike.

Of course you don't have to live in Mk to work in MK. Buy a house in Woburn Sands and its straight out the door stuff

You may of course want to go for a trial ride at some point
