Looming for some lightweight knee pads, with protection not just the thick neoprene ones. Moving to flat pedals so me i could do with something wearable and comfy on my shins too.

Any recommendations?

The Alpinestars are pretty excellent. Not sure on exact model, I'll go Google

Paragon they look like.

Honestly, having done the jump to flat pedals thing last year, I wouldn't worry about it.

I think the pedals have made contact with my shin exactly once when riding.

If you have normal knee pads then just wear them, maybe pull your socks up a bit.

I have always used flat pedals and hardly ever hit my shins.
I am interested in this though after breaking my lower leg in late summer when a rock was thrown up from my front wheel on a fast descent

After much trial and error the comfiest ones I found for me are the IXS Hammer - proper hard plastic knee cup and shinpad. Comfy for pedalling too. Quite a light option with no rear protection whatsoever.

However, like others I've rarely (don't want to say never as that's just tempting fate...) had a shin/pedal interface. I only ever wear combined knee/shin guards on uplifts. I prefer IXS Flow neoprene/soft kneepads for general riding.

Same. Was pretty anxious about it at first. Initially did notice contact when I was stopping, pushing, or just in the garage (back of the calves as much as shins), but you learn to avoid it without needing to think about it. If you need peace of mind, Endura do some knee-length socks with thin pads in them, and Scott do some pretty universal-looking small shin guards to fit under knee pads.
