Planning some Destroy It Yourself over Xmas and my 2 Black and Decker drills from the 90's have finally given up the ghost.
I've a budget of about £80 - doesn't have to be mega heavy duty but some Screwdriver bits included will be nice.
Any Suggestions ?
Thanks

Lidl?
B&Q had a big pile of nicad / nimh makitas on offer for that sort of price last time I was in. If you make more use of drills then better to get Li Ion but if you last one has lasted since the 90s then Makitas will give you a better quality drill on a cheaper battery technology. Just have a mind for being kind to them when you charge them (you can be careless with Li Ion) and they'll be nice. The deals with older battery styles more frequently have bit sets thrown in.
Other than B&Q the places to look online for deals are Screwfix, Toolstation and D&M tools - the latter carries more brands than pretty much anyone else.
If you can get makita, hitachi, or AEG for that you'll be happy, I've been less impressed with blue bosch at the bottom end of the range and with dewalt, although if your usage is modest you'll doubtless be fine
I have a 24v Bosch which is great. For your budget I think you'd be hard pushed to beat something like this:

There are some slightly cheaper NIMH versions on there too with a spare battery, which is handy if you are doing a big job as you can alternate between them. My personal experience is that anything below 18v is not really up to 'proper' drilling work and is more suited to light drilling and screwdriver duties.
The bosch i have is on offer at bnq right now for 89.99
Its a two battery li ion set and does everything i ask of it.
Aldi are also doig a liion for 49.99 right now - i have other workzone branded stuff thats surpriseingly good
Not for a tradesman maybe but for what i need its been dandy - ive got a reciprocating saw and a detail sander that have seen fair usage
B&Q own is excellent. Think it's a rebadged Matika. Li-Ion batteries x 2 with 1 hour charge and was £80 when I was in there last week. It's blue and yellow but I cant remember what it's called.
I had my eye on a makita from screwfix, but they've put the price up by 50% last week. I guess it's to take advantage of the Christmas pressie buyers, and it'll be reduced again as soon as the sale starts.
I'm waiting now and won't bother 'till boxing day at the earliest, reckon the deals will be loads better.
For your budget - corded or battery? Or both??
Aldi are also doig a liion for 49.99 right now -
I thought that was a few weeks back - but some branches may well have some / lots left.
Anyway I got one of those last year and to me it's a good bit of kit for the cash. 3 years warranty. 10x better than my previous nicad bosch : mainly for how long it just keeps going and going between charges - I tend to need a break before it needs charged.
The downside though will be replacement batteries - I do an occasional search for what else its sold as (all their stuff seems to be rebranded from other big players).
Ultimately though if you want just ONE drill for domestic duties I'd suggest getting a corded one.
All this from a non-experts (just a keen diyer's) point of view.
