I've just bought a Thule Backpac 973 with the 3rd and 4th bike adaptors for my 07 Corolla Verso (fit kit 15). It fits well and seems really solid, although the gas struts now aren't strong enough to keep the boot open. However, the Thule instructions say that I should only use two bikes with my car. Does anyone have any experience using more bikes than recommended with this rack?
Thanks,
Paul
I had one on my van (VW T4).
As standard 2 bikes boot mainly opened fine, with 3rd bike adapter only stayed open on hot days and when 4th bike adapter arrived the boot was always quite heavy. NB this was without bike on. With bikes on very heavy and probably not clever.
I made a wooden chock to hold the boot open. Worked for several years until I sold the van last week.
As for the no. of bikes on your car it may not be as strong as the van so I don't know what the sensible weight limit is. The rack on it's own is heavy and the last bike is a way out so puts a lot of leverage on the rack.
Thanks, Slowol. Anybody else have experience with this rack? THanks, Paul
