Just bought a set of grx brakes off some chap on Facebook. They are new, he sent shifters, calipers and hoses all separately, so need assembling together. Only issue is the hoses are bh59 variety, rathe than the bh90 that are specified by shimano
I have read that the difference is a slightly different feel and as long as I use the correct barbs all is good as the external diameter is the same
Can anyone confirm?

Yep, totally interchangeable so long as you use the correct insert - Silver insert in the BH90, Gold in the 59. Same olives, hose ends etc.
BH 90 is marked as 'high power hose' and is thicker wall, supposedly a bit tougher and gives a firmer brake feel.
BH59 is the norm for lower end, deore etc.
I've mixed and matched loads, its imperceptible.
Just dont buy the cheap unbraned ebay/amazon hose.
