I have had a series of bad cold etc recently. The last one had me unable to talk for maybe 4 days, a chest completely clogged with gunk and goo for over a week. It was 2 weeks before the worst of the symptoms left me. I then had a week off, put two very short rides in and then did the West Drayton Sportive (110k) very slowly but I got there. I had nothing in the tank from 2km out but as I had been putting big miles in up to the cold my stamina (I guess) kept me going. Since then I have been out a few times and have felt awful, weak legs, a bit wheezy etc and while my mind is raring to go my body just doesn't seem up to it. I can spin away quite happily but as soon as I need to put some extra effort in, climbing, sandy sections etc my legs just desert me... there is no power at all. Yesterday for example I was struggling to make it up a small and shallow climb at Thetford, my legs just shut down for 5 minutes.

Is it possible that the cold is still hanging on? I have Bristol in a couple of weeks and I am beginning to worry that I' not going to have the legs for it. I'm in a dilemma, I could rest but then my fitness would keep on dropping away or keep going and get no better.

(I have been to the Doctor in case you ask. It is the usual thing, if you can put in a six hour ride you can't be unfit, so don't worry.)

Cold is a virus. You are fatigued after having a virus.... Post Viral Fatigue perhaps? Go see a doc.

Its the obvious answer.

Is your chest clear now? Another possibility is that you still have a chest infection which is a secondary bacterial infection.

Does sound like taking it easy for a week or two would not go amiss.

Back to the docs for you

My chest is clear - ish. Occasional coughing and goo but still phlegm around. also, it seems to take much, much longer to recover from a ride, any ride, let alone a tough one.

Better look up the doctor's telephone number again then. 🙁
