Changed the flip-chip round?

How? I must be completely stupid as the 2 spacers just fall out when I try to line the stays back up. What the hell am I missing?

Can’t find anything on the ‘net ☹️

Well, there we go. The answer was these 2 perfectly cut to size pieces of dowel. Hold everything in place while the bolts were pushed through.

I should make a YouTube video

So ere goes. This is how I managed to swap the flip chip. In case someone else one day is searching the web and finds sod-all like I did! Maybe there's a better way and I would be very interested to know if there is.

So the flip chip is a 5mm hex on each side of the linkage. Both bolts are right-hand thread (I mention this as Trek have reverse thread on one side)

2 pieces needed to hold the spacers in place, measurements are about accurate, need to be an exact width and diameter to hold all the bits and be "pushable" out of the way when bolts reinserted.

I also used a removable zip-tie to hold the suspension aligned. It sort of worked, but the nature of the flex pivot meant everything still moved when the second bolt was removed, so might be unnescessary

Undo the bolts. Hold the inside flip chip part in place as you do this, so it doesn't get pushed out. You want the bolt to come out, so pic

Carefully remove the bolts. The flip chip spacers against the bearings are bound to fall out when you remove the 2nd bolt so be ready for this.

Once both bolts removed, insert your dowel pieces in the bolt holes and place the spacers back against the bearings as they were (Cannondale page showing their position will be in the next post)

Flip the flip chips round 180deg. (Applying light grease to chips etc as per doc below)

Spacer and dowel in place from the inside:

Ensure the spacers are flat against the bearings and nothing is going to get pushed out of the way when the swing arm goes back into place... Then carefully line up the pivot bolt holes.

Insert the first bolt pushing the wooden thingy out with it. (catch the wooden thingy for use next time!) This should hold everything aligned, while you insert the second bolt. Hand tighten the bolts

Once chips are flipped and everything back in place, tighten the bolts to the specified torque.

Job done.

Here's the 'dale guide page so you know where everything goes after it's all dropped on the filthy garage floor (just me then!)

Owners manual link

Moterra SL document (until they move or rename it, as these companies invariably do!)

Hope that helps someone (or indeed someone comes up with a more pro method)

How are you liking the bike. Cannondale fan, previous and current bike (Carbon Habit SE) has been faultless but venturing towards an e-bike.  One dealer I went to suggested the Moterra SL was a bit of a barge on tight corners but a hoot to ride downhill?

Well, seeing as my previous bike was the full fat (weight!) Cannondalr Moterra, this one is far from barge like! I've only had one ride since I got it, but it feel fab on the trails. Got to get used to the difference in power delivery between the Bosch on the old one and the Shimano on this one, but suspension-wise they are very similar. I absolutely loved riding the old one and the way the Bosch works, so hopefully this will be the same. I bought for 2 (well 3 reasons) - reason 3 being this was an amazing price, but also wanted something lighter for hefting through gates, onto the bike rack etc., but also the Bosch was over-powered for me and the riding I do. So I think  this one will be perfect.
