Amazon have the sweetly named "Funkier" shorts brand, might be worth a look. They show you what the pad is like.
Haven't seen much better around, even in the sales.
5mm thick on the DHBs, sounds good enough... might try a pair meself.

(Funnily enough I can't see the ones on Merlin)

Funkier shorts have really nice pads in them, and seem to be well priced 🙂

Look at the Start Fitness website, they have lots of end of range bargains but also have their own line More Miles which I highly recommend
