It's time for a bigger bike for our eldest.

I'm after an MTB ideally but a hybrid would also work. I did wonder about grabbing this from Wiggle but I'd need to swap to flat bars and wider tyres which would add some cost (bar, shifters, brake levers etc) so I wondered if anyone has seen anything?

Bargain is a relative term I guess. There's a Cub Scout for £550 which is quite a wad of cash, but it that's 56% off apparently.

Merlin have this - https://www.merlincycles.com/wizard-jm24-kids-mtb-bike-24-wheels-269981.html

At that sort of price point I'd be looking at second hand as there's a really good resale market for kids MTB

E.g.

That 24+ on Gumtree would actually be perfect. Not a bad idea to look at used though, I had discounted the idea because our kids bikes get covered in scratches immediately but that one you linked to looks to be in great condition.

spcialized rip rock 24 are excellent.  I went with one over something with sus forks:-

lighter

lower front end for better front wheel traction (sus forked 24" bikes have huge stack height)

rigid to learn riding finesse 🙂

Then I bought him one of these as well for CX racing as it looks to be the same frame and fork as the CX version.  Going to add wider treaded tyres.

i would go 24+ rather than suspension as well. The cujo was cheap a month ago when I was looking, but can't see it now

I ended up buying a cubscout frame for £50 and mulletting it with some 26" bits I had lying around

Some kids just don't ride their bikes much

i would go 24+ rather than suspension

Likewise. I can only speak from my own experience but my 6 year old has an orbea mx20 with plus size tyres and he's an absolute machine ascending and descending on it. He tried a friend's 20in trek hardtail with front suspension once and he didn't like it much.

Funnily enough it's an MX20 that this bike would be replacing and it's been perfect for her.

My son's outgrown this if it's of any interest...

I've got two in the shed both in good nick - market is tough due to COVID sales I suspect. I've reached a point where I'm contemplating donating to some under privileged family / youth group as got bored of FB time waster stuff.

If you're in Hampshire and interested in a Vitus or a Voodoo at a cheap price drop me a PM and I'll dig out some pics.
