You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Going to Snowdonia for a few days and will be arriving late Friday afternoon. Thinking of checking out Stiniog for a few hours. Is the Uplift road too steep to pedal? Will I be chased off the hill by disgruntled staff?
Would very, very much doubt they'd let you ride up - largely because the Uplift vehicles wizz up that access road at a rate of knotts.
Not worth it tbh, they'll probably do a half-day ticket (which would very much be worth it)
Call and ask if they'll do evening uplift for you.
I've only been once, but as I recall the uplift road isn't even close to being a direct route, it leaves via the front gate, up the road for a bit and then up the side of the mountain. We passed 2 people making their way to the top, I suspect it's a decent old slog up there - it would fail my graft to reward ratio rule. I'd try to get on the bus.
We passed 2 people making their way to the top,
cheers, thats good enough for me 🙂
They discourage it, I believe, but I've seen folks doing it
The uplift bus route is probably about 2.5 - 3km and is maybe couple of hundred meters climbing, sound easy?? Good luck!
An afternoon Uplift ticket runs from 1:30 to 4:15, so as your getting there late in the afternoon I guess your looking to dodge paying??
When I went last quite a few had dropped out towards the end of the day so you might be able to PAYG if you ask them nicely..

I will arrive at 4pm having finished work at 12.15 - so no I am not trying to dodge paying. I am not paying for 15 minutes.
As it happens I enjoy steep climbs as much as I enjoy gnarly descents
My question was not "would you do it" it was "is it possible"

Always thought there was something wrong with you 😆
You're absolutely right Steve 😀
Is should make for a good warm up for Snowdon... which will be done at Dawn on Saturday....weather depending
They will not allow you to pedal up. Don't try to. As previously said, ask if there's an evening uplift.
I 95% certain riding up isn't allowed, I would check with them directly.

I hope you're packing pistols? 😉
Last time I went we didn't have long so they let us buy a couple of single tickets. Worked well. If you enjoy pedalling up why even go there? Why not do one of the many excellent loops in the area?

Because I find trail centers a bit boring - I prefer downhill tracks or big mountains.
I know I'm a little odd but that's what I like.
I don't get why I cant pay a fiver and pedal - like I can at Bike Park Wales.
So what time do they all go home 🙂
AFAIK they don't let you ride up
Pretty sure it's uplift only there.
Never seen anyone ride up, the access road off the main road is gated, would imagine that gets locked out of hours.
Go to Penmachno.
Definitely uplift only. There's no climbing trail and pedalling is not allowed.
Riding up is not allowed
not allowed. was there once when we (on the uplift) came across two lads pedalling up, the driver stopped, gave em a bollocking and sent em back down the road. dont suppose they can stop you out of hours tho but it would be a hideous climb! if i was gonna trespass out of hours when nobody else is about, id probably pedal up one of the blues...
incidentally were going to north wales this weekend too, was plannind a dawn raid on Cadair Idris (maybe not quite dawn - no VCB to worry about) but the weather has just changed from glorious to thunderstorms and showers!! hot and wet is worst and no visibility on the summits is gash.
Walk up carrying your bike 😀
I think if even you do pedal up it once with a burly full suss, you won't want to do it again!!!!

Unlike posting about it.

I am there til Wednesday morning - might do Cadair Idris also if I get chance. Forecast doesn't look great - but then forecasts more than 24 hours in advance are pretty useless in the mountains. Wait and see I guess.
plan was cadair idris out of Abergynolwyn, and maybe a lap of the climachx if i can be arsed. as you say, ill see what the weather reckons on Friday but plan B is to stay under the cover of trees and explore Beddgelert...

Must depend on the driver then - our fella gave them a wave as he passed

Yeah, I've ridden up. Easy enough if you have legs and a set of lungs. I pre-arranged it, with a few caveats - ended up riding it before the uplifts started early morning, eliminating some of the potential hassle. The Antur staff were very accommodating to a little project I was working on; doubt ride-ups will become 'a thing' for the general public.

So considerably under 10% then, if that's correct? Sounds easy enough to me.
Andy R - maybe the sounds easy and good luck were a bit ott. I'm not a shirker of climbing at all and it prob isn't that bad, could I be arsed doing it more than once?? Prob not.
