Booked in for the uplift at Antur this coming Saturday, and I'm quite excited as I've never been before. But are there any tips to help maximise the day? I've heard it can be quite brutal on wheels/tyres? I run tubeless, but is it still a "take 5 innertubes and spare tyres, just in case" type of place??
Any help greatly appreciated!
i went 3 weeks ago, they have spares at a price, so take as much as possible.
I just put a couple more psi in the tyres to be safe. I weight 110kg so quite a strain on the wheels!
its very muddy/boggy currently so consider tyres.
I only used 1 set of brake pads the runs aren't as long as Dyfi.
but its still really good fun, the cafe food is ok and the lift does stop for lunch.
It's rocky, don't run silly low pressures.
Personally not wrecked a tyre there (I put it down to luck)... but the car park, usually at any point is going to have someone that has. Its not going to hurt to have spares.
Other than that fantastic place... have fun.
I’ve found it a bit hard on the body but haven’t damaged any bikes / tyres whilst there.
Just run exo or snakeskin apex tyres on the front but both times I ran a tough / fast wtb rear tyre. Both tubeless.
Assume the weather will be biblically bad and prep accordingly. The place is very exposed and if it rains it’ll probably come in sideways and drench you. I’ve had one dry day there and one wet day - both in the summer.
I’d wear a full face and at least knee pads - although I wore elbow/ forearm pads as well. The surface is probably pretty unforgiving if you come off as it’s an old slate mine.
Enjoy though - it’s a good day out. Loads of berms and rollers on the blues and reds. Blacks are a mixture - from the top there’s what looks like a small cliff to get down at first glance then it splits into 2. I think from memory one run is quite jumpy and the other more tech. The black that goes down the bottom 3rd into the woods is quite tech and fun. There’s also a run with what to me is a massive drop thing near the bottom - black graded.
My only tip is keep an eye on their social media before traveling, they do close the uplift if the wind is too bad.
Super windy tonight and tomorrow but weekend isn't looking too bad at the mo.
I'll pack extra everything just to be safe - thanks for the info, much appreciated!
I've rode there a lot - it's loose with a lot of sharp pointy slate.
Use a downtube protector or cable tie a cut up tyre - a lot of rock gets pinged up. Especially important if your cables run under the downtube.
Kneepads and gloves - speeds aren't particularly fast but the ground is sharp.
Pace yourself - you can do a lot of runs and get down with the next uplift be sat there waiting, the uplift is quick and doesn't give you much time to get your rattled to bits fingers working again.
