I have a Garmin Edge Touring Plus and wanted to use my old Suunto HRM belt, Suunto device is described as being ANT, Garmin picks up (or doesn't pick up!) ANT+, will the two work together?

Thanks

Looking at the FAQ on the Suunto page... no it won't work.

Bit surprised really, Suunto must have built a proprietary alternative to ANT+ on top of the base ANT protocol.

Edit... from Suunto...

Suunto ANT and ANT+ are two different networks in the ANT environment. ANT+ is open and available for all developers against a license fee. Suunto ANT is a private network that was started before ANT+ and is therefore not compatible with it.

As someone with a number of Sunntu belts (really must get round to selling them) I can confirm they wont work with Garmin Edges. Its really anoying.
Halfords had the Garmin premium belt for £38, which is good as the list price is about £50.

actually will the touring even work with garmin own belts. They have done similar things before with the forerunner range, you had to get the right model or it wouldn't work.

Thanks for the replies, i guess it is called the Edge Touring Plus (twas a gift), so i'm hoping that any that work with the more common Edge models will? Bit annoying to have to pay £40 for another strap!

Any one know if the cheap ANT+ (£12) from China on Ebay are any good?
