Start ride and think how rubbish my back brake is. During the ride it improves and by the end I can lock it up easily.
Put bike in shed. A week later ride bike and it's back to having a rubbish brake.
No obvious accumulation of dust on any leaks.
Any ideas?
How do you store your bike in the shed? Right way up, upside down, hanging on the wall etc. ?
Right way up.
How old are the brakes?
It sounds like a caliper Union transfer port micro leak.

I run Hope E4s on one bike, Shimano XT and SLX on the other bikes. I'd recommend the Hopes, they start out rubbish and remain consistent throughout the ride 🙂
My two pence worth would be either a small amount of air in the system that works it's way up to the reservoir during the spin. If the brakes go from feeling spongy to firm during the spin then this is probably the issue. Quick bleed will sort this.
As mentioned in above post , could be pad contamination from a micro leak. Contamination clears a bit during the spin. If the brakes feel firm from the start but with no stopping power then this is probably the issue. Splitting the Caliper and replacing the O ring between the caliper sides will fix this. Easy job: Can find a link to instructions if required.

Whipped my pads out and these are never going to be much good! There's no rub whatsoever so what's making them glaze up?
Likely to be contaminated with oil.
To try Savin the pad, Hold them over the gas hob with some pliers until they start glowing red and smoke (this will stink). Then sand the glaze off.
Need to find the cause of the contamination though
