Bought a brand new set of 'Tubeless Ready' Bontrager 29-4 tyres a few months ago. Ran them ghetto tubeless tape method for a month or so on halo freedom disc 29er rims riding them for the daily on/off road commute, all was fine and they seemed solid. Swapped to other tyres for a bit then swapped back. While re-mounting the side walls seemed to have stretched a bit but it didn't seem excessive...about 20 minutes after inflating to 45psi to set the bead it blew off the rim deafening the missus and showering the spare bedroom in sealant.
I've been running them with tubes since but was wondering if using the ghetto split tube method might make them a tighter fit with the stretched side walls? I emailed notubes asking if there's a rim strip for this rim but haven't had a definitive answer yet... The tyre tread has barely worn the moulding dags off...surely their tubeless capability isn't knackered already?...

The freeride rimstrip fits a treat.
sss, is there a 29er version or does the 26" one fit the 29er rims as well? Do the rim strips make the tyre a tighter fit?
The 26er one fits. Yes it does make the tyre a bit tighter. You might want to put a couple of wraps of tape under it though to make it a bit tighter still.
