Time to sell all your soon to be obsolete bikes everyone, Trek has just brought out a 148mm axle standard!
Can't paste the link but search for Trek Boost 148.

Another reason not to own a Trek or Specialized! 🙄

148 is the flange width.

Wider flange does make sense tbh. But big companies going it alone with "standards" does not. It's not like flange width bullshit is new tbh, we saw all that with 150mm DH wheels- the number of those that have narrow flanges is ridiculous. And now they're doing it again with 7-speed dh kit on standard wheels

You'll need a new chainset to get the chainline right as well.

So it's all good news...

Or a SRAM one with removable spider. Which is another way of saying "you need a new chainset" 😉 Course, you can space 1x10 around.

You'll probably also need a wider bb shell to so the cranks clear the chainstays with more clearance.

But my current set-up works fine. Do I have to change over? Is this new standard compulsory?

Trek were saying today that Q-Factor is unaffected so wider BB may not be needed?

Trek came up with BB95, and didn't patent it in the hope other brands would adopt it, but they didn't. Trek are still using it though. Wonder if this will be the same.

I hear it will be compulsory. Teams of snatchers will be deployed into the woods to apprehend any half bloods that don't conform immediately.
