never opened doors yesterday due to insolvency, posts by two staff on their ladies team facebook show printouts stuck to insides of windows.
obviously a long running well known shop, it was part of or owned by bike-uk (bristol) which i believe is still trading. none of the websites or main fb have been updated yet.. perhaps the name will live on but the bricks n mortar store will be gone
grew up not far from there. went on rides with them in the very early 90s and bought & sold a few bikes via the second hand selection they had at the old store out front. as well as buying new once i was working.
they literally just started doing Santa Cruz stuff two weeks ago. hope they havent dealt a blow to jungle prods credit wise.
Oh that’s no good . I grew up in Yeovil and bought my first proper mtb there , a kona hahanna in about 95 I think . That got stolen and the guys at RC gave me a good deal on a lava dome to replace it .
Hope everyone working there gets sorted ok .
Some really nice guys working there, hope they all land on their feet.
Use 'em or lose 'em people.
The Rider's Guild in Chichester also gone this week (liquidation sale on Saturday).
I'm not a big spender on bike parts but used them quite a lot over the years. That explains why the shutters were down when I drove past on the way home from work yesterday.
Some really nice guys working there, hope they all land on their feet
The staff were always good in there and Barry the manager was a really nice guy, I know quite a few people that have worked there too. Massive shame 🙁
Oh no... I have a friend who lives in Oxfordshire who still brings his bikes back down here to be worked on at Ralph Colmans because he doesn't trust anyone else
Bought a few bikes there - and the guys in the workshop exuded "trustworthiness" in a way I've never known previously... possibly the 3 week wait for a workshop slot!!!
yup ivan and sandy in the the workshop were super cool when i used it recently.
Same here, the workshop provided an amazing level of service when they handled a frame warranty exchange. Such a shame.
That's sad nice little shop thing is these days the market is very down on previous years my mates work in a bike shop in Cheltenham and I know the owner well there boom years were 2008/2012 sell way less now and most are road or gravel and once someone has brought a road bike you hardly see them again compared to MTbikers and that market is very dead scary world if you work in a cycle shop these days bit like a bank.
Was my local - bad times. I did wonder about the Santa Cruz thing... Bought 2 bikes there but also guilty of online shopping.
Bought a helmet there not long ago, really helpful. Sadly running out of places for cash purchases which fly under wife-radar (wifedar)
I grew up with it as my LBS and as said there were always great people working there. They will be missed and that must mean there's no bike shops in the town centre at all now.
