Evening folks,

Some of you kindly informed me that I can convert my existing pro11 (non evo) hub to a142mm bolt through axle.

If I do this will it work with the existing 10 speed free hub?

If I want to buy an xt 1x11spd groupset will I need to change my freehub too?

Do any retailers sell these parts online or do I need to go to hope direct?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Paul

You can get them online from some places

You cannot use a Pro 2 (non evo) freehub with a 142 bolt thru axle
The Pro 2 non evo freehubs have bearings which are only 15mm internal... the 142 axle is 17mm and only the evo freehub has bearings to accomodate this

Don't think that's quite right though the Evo is better on a 12mm axle

I'm talking about the evo axle, not the super thin non-evo conversion which only leaves 1.5 mm axle wall thickness if using the same bearings/freehub

Can I put an evo free hub on it then to accomodate a larger set of bearings plus an evo axle to make it stronger?

yes you can. But you want the heavy steel one.

So what you probably want to do is convert the whole hub to Evo with a new axle and bearings.

I've just found two axles in my spare parts box. God knows how long they've been in there.. one is wafer thin and hollow all the way through. The other is chunkier and narrows right down with enough space to get a qr skewer through. Can I fit the wafer thin one and buy the 142 end caps? I've taken a photo but realised I've got no way of publically sharing it with you all.

Where sells the steel axle? I've found this one (see below) but it looks aluminium to me like the one I've already got.
