I'm highly dubious that a £350 bike weighs less than 22lb but I'll have to run with it for a mo. 9.68kg = 21.34lb. That leaves you 299g for rack & guards. First rack I found a weight for is a Blackburn EX2 @ 590g. So you're close, but no cigar I'm afraid.
Next !

If you took the bell and reflectors off the 9.68kg (factory weighed before packing) that will give a bit more margin for the rack and guards, and there's still £350 to spend on lighter tyres, saddle, etc. P35s about 500g, a Tubus Fly rack is only 350g or so.. 250-300g saved on the bike and you're there. Sort of..
You'll tell me it doesn't count as it's not road-legal right? : )

Why doesn't your mate buy one of each and sell the one that doesn't want. That's what the shop would have to do.

I can see the situation the LBS is in here, but this basically sounds like an argument for choosing the internet over the LBS in one of the very few situations where the LBS has the edge.

The Demo thing is a good idea if you get to demo the bikes before they are knackered.Years ago mate had a shop in Gloucester and they had the Konaers sent to them only problem they had done the rounds. The stab was useless bearings all gone in frame forks leaking oil etc.Plus other things wrong.Great bikes if newish but like that it was no point told you nothing about them.

It'd be great if those working in the LBS and slagging customers would reveal who they work for. Cynic-al?

It's not really a LBS is it? thought it was part of a chain, like Evans or Halfords, just not so successful
