Just opened a CRC delivery I had today, of a Hope direct mount chainring, supposed to be 32 tooth.

Immediately obvious all the anodizing is worn off teeth and there are traces of lube and muck on it, blatantly been used and I'm not talking a test fit or ride round the block by the look of it.

Further, it's a 34 tooth, although it had been put into a 32 tooth packet!

Most unhappy. Going to be sat waiting for a chainring and unable to build the bike for the weekend. Will be on the blower to them in the morning but needed to vent!

Chances are someone scammed crc, by putting their old used oneinto the new replacements packet, and returned for a refund.
I know that’s of no consolation to you, but I doubt crc did it on purpose

But if they don't check the returns thats poor and is Crcs fault.

Is that for everyone? Damm that is a crap new policy - no idea how they will get away with that in the long term....

Oh hang on it's a one off mistake
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six_Sigma#Sigma_levels
The sigma level of Defects/Mistakes per Million operations is a useful one to compare to in these cases. Yes it's a pain for you but given the size of the operation it's virtually insignificant in the grand scheme of things and they are probably around the 4 or 5 level.
If you want them to check everything at every point in person to make sure somebody hasn't just put the old one back in the new packaging then your going to be paying a bit more for your bits.

So you would be happy if it happened to you.

IMO they should check everything before returning it to stock.

Now, where is my box of old spare parts? I fancy some new shiny bits for free.

I just had a package sent to Australia from CRC, never had a prob over the $1000s I have spent but this took 3-4 weeks. Normally 5 days and the tyre sealant I order wasn’t in the box. It obviously burst and covered everything else in crap. I email them to say I wasn’t happy and that everything looked like a rough second hand piece and they simply were not bothered at all. Gave me no option And just made out like it was bad luck and deal with it. They said the will send me a new order but all the new order had in it was my missing bottle of tyre fluid.

Nope but I accept that mistakes happen, if they fix it at their cost then I don't care. However I mostly try and get time sensitive parts from the LBS, it's easier and simpler.

They might do, however it's a manual process which by it's very nature can have errors. Packaging looks good as it says it was etc over to the restock pile, or maybe it was the end of the day and the part left in the middle got put in the wrong box and restocked.

Mistakes happen, in reality it's what you do about them. From a customer point of view making your first complaint to the internet is always classy. I hope the OP lets us know what CRC say in the morning.

This is why I use PayPal whenever I can to pay for stuff nowadays as you can raise a dispute through them and you can’t get fobbed off by a crap company returns or customer service department.

Funny, i had exactly the same with a leaky bottle of sealant this spring.

Clothes and sealant i wanted replacing, hardware takes ~10 seconds to wipe clean, so no big deal.

I even offered to post the clothes back.

They just resent the order.

Maybe you need to send polite emails?

The used parts, they probably just checked that the packet looked sealed/unopened. Then stuck it back into stock.

There was a very similar thread a while about the same happening with Amazon. It happens, more because of a fellow rider being a **** rather than the shop not doing their job

The folk doing the checking are likely not cyclists.

For them it could be a chainring or a packet of cbocolate digestives they are sticking on the shelf.

Equally it's 4.45 I'm going home at 5. What's for dinner oooh I fancy fish and chips -this packets in tact - I'm going to have ketchup and a pickled onion with my fish and chips.

From my dealings over the past 1.5-2 years with them, I very much doubt this is an isolated incident.
Stuff is taking longer to come for no known reason, I've been sent out wrong parts (pair of 29er rims ordered, one 29er and one 26er sent out) and recently an order of 3 things (2 stems and a chain - so nothing large) came in seperate packages. I also got procore 29er which for some reason said 26in on some of the packaging - it was the right stuff inside and appeared unused, but quite odd.
Something isn't quite right! I'll now only use them if they're by far the cheapest or the only place with something in I want/need - which they often are, and at least they don't play games with pretending stuff is in stock then asking you to wait for it, but things have gone downhill a bit and marginally higher prices would be fine by me if these things were sorted.

I sent back tubeless valves and some sealant, funny how the valves in the box never arrived! Magic. Will be shopping elsewhere from now on. #Toobigtogiveastuff

Well, tried to phone today when I could whilst at work and couldn't get through to anyone. Sent email last night but no reply as yet.

Had a reverb stealth I'd also ordered turn up today, was supposed to be 30.9mm and they've sent 31.6mm....... something else I'll have to sort out.

Never had a single issue with CRC orders before and I've shopped with them for years. This does all seem off.
