I keep dreaming about buying a new MTB, unfortunately the cost of one is slightly beyond my reach at present, so I am looking at buying a road bike to tide me over for a while.

Not wanting to spend much, so looking at the Giant Defy 3 or Trek 1.2.

Or slightly more expensive, the Defy 2 or 1.5.

Sora vs Tiagra shifters, I have read that the Sora's are positioned in an odd way compared to all the others, is it worth the extra for the Tiagras?

And would I look a choad with my Shimano MTB SPD shoes on a road bike...

Tiagras are far better than soras - in e fact you can shift down from any bar position ( except the flat tops) Soras have a
Ittle stubby lever that you can only get to from hoods

Having had an example of both I preferred the Defy.If you can affordd it go for Tiagra, partly for the more intuitive levers and if its 10 speed it will allow easier upgrades.
