So I've got the chance of moving to Anglesey for a few years and was wondering if anyone knew about the riding there and if it was any good ?
Also how far from Snowdonia etc is it.
Cheers.
Steve.
It's lovely 🙂

You can see Snowdonia from Anglesey so not far 🙂
It is lovely...i work there and cycle commute sometimes..pm or email me if you want to know more!
I live on Anglesey. Great for road riding. Pretty much nothing on the island as far as mountain biking goes apart from a couple of cheeky areas for messing around. Plenty on the mainland if you're willing to drive to it though. My email is in my profile if you want any details or fancy meeting for a ride when you get here.
Did a little micro adventure from Bangor round the coast to newborough forest recently. Was one of the best I've ever done!!
Fattie + beach = much fun!! 😀
Copper Trail is good
There have been some local CX and XC MTB races held near Amwlch in a disused quarry. Take a look on Youtube
Thanks for the replies.
Location wise I would be at RAF Valley if that narrows the area down a bit !
Y Fali?! The "island of shattered dreams and recurring nightmares"?!
I built a house in the 'Neigr a few years back! Snowdonia's 40 or so minutes drive - mainly dual carriageway. Holyhead Mountain might be worth a visit, not sure. I used to ride round the back lanes across 4-mile bridge which were nice.
Good waves when the waves are working. Cable Bay, Rhosneigr Town beach has the longest wave I've ridden.
Love that place, would go back in a flash!
Pretty quick to get onto the mainland from RAF valley by car as you're right next to the A55. If you want mountain biking from your doorstep though then you're going to be disappointed.

Ooooh, cheeky. 🙂
Good innit?
The coastal path can be fun in places and Newborough is well worth a trip.
Parys Mountain is worth a visit too.
Great road riding though, there's a 70 odd mile loop you can link up using the two main cycle routes and since the dual carriageway opened the back lanes are a lot quieter.
As above Snowdonia is fantastic for road and MTB, as long as you have a relaxed attitude to riding on footpaths and like bloody big hills.
The Bikefax guidebook is good.
Coastal path from Penrhyn Mawr (near Trearddur) to holyhead mountain, up and round there. Love the area. Not just biking but kayaking and surf too.
Snowdon, 40 mins from Valley. Win.
Spent several years at Valley (93-95) many a happy Wednesday night at the Octagon in Bangor 😳
Ended up in Cemaes Bay but left last year. Some beautiful areas if you visit some of the smaller villages. My mate runs the "Ring of Fire" each year too. Nutter!!!
at the Octagon in Bangor
I lived in llangefni for 2 years, then Bangor for a further year (1987), I remember taking a girl to the Octagon and some old gipsy lady saying we'd have a long future together (obviously hoping I'd buy some lucky heather-no chance), but we have now been married over 20 years!
Octagon is called Peep now for those wondering. And RAF Valley you're about a 25-30 miles ride to Snowdonia, so it's good, and there's a lot of good coastal routes that way, up to cemaes bay, very up and down but not very many mountains on the actual island.
God, the Octagon. That brings back memories... we used to do school bus trips up there when I was in 6th form. Sticky floor and you had to wear a shirt and tie to get in.
I grew up on Anglesey and used to do a lot of riding there.
There are lots of off road options but sadly most of them are at least partly cheeky - if Wales gets it's improved access legislation together there are apparently <ahem> some amazing coastal routes up on the North Coast and around Holy Island, some of them pretty technical, or at least they were on a fully rigid steel bike with plastic brakes in 1989. Coast between Porth Swtan (Church Bay) around Carmel Head to Cemlyn is particularly rugged.
Parys Mountain is fun on a bike - some great trails up there if you have an explore. Some of them frankly terrifying, and it's a unique landscape. There is a youtube clip here which is worth a watch:
Some good fat-biking opportunities too, particularly on the W coast - Malltraeth, Newborough, Rhosneigr etc,but also around Red Wharf Bay
As above some lovely road rides but I reckon a CX bike would be a good bet for exploring as a lot of the lanes have some poor surfaces.
It has a reputation for being flat but don't discount the effect of the wind, and some bits are surprisingly hilly.
As above, anglesey is fantastic but m'biking is limited on the island. However, there is so much other stuff to do. Road biking, Surfing, Windsurfing, Kayaking etc. Snowdonia is a longer drive than you think, but very doable. About an hour from Valley to most of the big trail centers.
Anglesey is a perfect place just to go for a walk too.
The coastal path at low tide from Moelfre up to Dulas and back through the paths and lanes is just spot on.
And there's loads more like that.
And have a poke around the power station too, very odd place but worth it.
Some cracking, always empty little beaches round there and the cafe at Church bay is quality.

Lived on Ynys Mon for a while whilst at Bangor Uni early mid 90's. Wonder if the Peep (Octagon as it was known then)kept the spinning glitter ball which used to descend from the ceiling! Happy care free days
Love Anglesey (in April to Oct anyway).
