I thought that but speaking to the guys yesterday and today a lot of stuff is 'prototype' stuff. Was really interesting. From what I gather it's not tested for first time at these events but they are used as well as during training etc.
gwinn does proto testing for shimano, bet hes not happy with them!

What happened to Peaty?
He was up, rode off the trail into the catch fencing under a really tech section that many of the pro went around. Seemed that maybe his brakes failed, he shot down it.
Gwin's been running those brakes all year. He was offered the production version but apparently prefers the feel of the protos so stuck with them.
