I don't see the problem with that, its his leadership and business acumen they are after, not his ability to cook a burger or fit a headlight bulb.

McDonalds consistently place high in the top companies and top employer lists, so why not?

You could go in to by a 26" mountain bike and "go large" and get a 29er for 50p more!

It's funny because McDonald's has become shorthand for cheap and crappy (even if it is so damn tasty haha), as in 'I'm not aiming for the McDonald's end of the market.

They have done well to get her.
If they could do a good job with click and collect with stock quantity to rival wiggle they could make a killing in bike retail.

It's a good move, McDonalds has an excellent, lean, market-focused approach.

I don't see the problem with that, it's leadership and business acumen they are after, not ability to cook a burger or fit a headlight bulb.

Absolutely.

Wiggle are trying to get into offering servicing and order pickup - currently still just one corner of a Homebase in St Albans. Halfords has over 400 stores and a distribution network in place already, which is surely easier to build from. They acquired Boardman Bikes outright last year, seem to have been making slow but steady inroads to credibility.

Jill McDonald has done well at McDonalds, whatever you think about the brand or their food. She came in not long after the whole Super Size Me thing, did a lot of toning down the American-ness, better menu options, much improved coffee, better supply chain (about the only company that came out of the horsemeat saga well), but also still kept their core customers.

Incidentally, Halfords actually ranked quite highly in the recent Sunday Times "Best Companies to Work For" thing. Matt Davies has done pretty well too.

Well Halfords at seafield is right next door to The Golden Arches, so not much of a change in commute...

I am pleased to see that accidental sexism and smartphone grammar errors are the 2 things STW take from this announcement 😉

I may not eat there (much) but McDonalds is a business that can't be faulted for giving the customers what they want.
I actually quite like Halfords too, I guess I'm lucky that my local bike dept isn't just a couple of spotty teenagers who have BMX's; the guys (and sorry ladies, but they are all guys) there actually know what they're doing and seem to relish being able to work on a proper bike when I take one of mine in

Or just become the delivery arm of Wiggle. Why worry about stock when you have brand?

Because no one gives a shit. Just as long as Halfords do deals GT85 still all will be happy.

"A bottle of mud-off and a can of GT85, please"

"Do you want fries with that?"

Slidewinder, I properly burst out laughing at that. My local Halfords were saying that they're fighting to abolish their "0 hour" contracts too. She hopefully will get on board with that. I will admit, this was after the assistant manager turned to me and said "You don't fancy coming back to work for us, do you?"

I've often described Halfords as being to bikes shops what McDonalds is to restaurants.....

does she know how to change the oil filter on a focus? probably not, but that's not her job.

if she headed up maccas, she'll be an absolute gun.

be interesting to see what Halfords get up to.
