Got a spare day coming up whilst travelling with work and want to ride MTB; will be flying into Munich and have a hire car, so looking for somewhere to hire a MTB from and then ride 4-5hours of nice XC.

Can anyone make any recommendations, happy to drive 2+ hours if the riding is good, so even northern Austria possible I guess.

TIA

Hmm - I go annually with work first week in May, but never considered going to the mountains.
Hopefully someone will chime in with something.

Currently being recommended an hour north of Munich riding the Regensburg XC trails; found a local guy that might be able to help me out also which would be perfect. Otherwise there's a couple of LBS he's recommended and Trailforks mapping, so this looks like the option I'll take. I'll be there on the 7th May if you're also there.

8th/9th/10th for me and I didn't book an extra day this time, so probably wont be able to do it, but next year I might make it into a holiday.

Just back from Germany after an epic day near Regensburg, spent the whole afternoon there after hooking up with a local via PinkBike. Turns out he and his friend actually live in the hills there and just build trails and ride their bikes every day, at one with the forest, with full on enduro bikes lol.

They leant me a Tallboy and we were out riding for like 4 hours, a mix of singletrack and zero track trails following some truely natural forest runs. These guys were fit and fast, both up and down; I race XC and use to race DH and these boys can peddle.

Here's the Strava post for info and images.

2 hrs will get you easily to kochel am see/bad tolz/Achensee or even as far as the zillertal or the bilke park at innsbruck. Lots of riding in all those areas and plenty of ebike hire available to extend your range. Lift assisted runs are probably out at this time of year while they carry out post-ski season maintainance.
