You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Sooo, I took my FS out for a ride at the weekend. Before I got too far down the road, the rear wheel was wobbling all over the place.
Turns out it had been a while since I'd checked the suspension and a horst link axis had dropped out. I was able to find the axle, but the screw is lost for ever. I think it probably fell out a while ago as I haven't ridden the bike in a while...
Anyway - here's how you can help:
I need a Horstlink Axis and screw for a 2015 Canyon Nerve AL29.
It's part 11 & 12 on the diagram:
I have emailed Canyon, but I'm not holding out too much hope so thinking I need to source from somewhere else.
Are these generally standard parts that I can order from a catalogue or am I going to need to get something reverse engineered from the link on the other side?
Most likely a proprietary part. Why are you not holding out too much hope for Canyon? Should be the kind of bit they keep stock of.
It sounds like you only need the screw not the axle?
If you can find out what kind of thread it is (probably some metric thread), you can probably then go and buy a bolt of the correct thread type from any hardware shop and cut it down to the correct length and use an appropriately sized washer to work in the same way as the original screw, it wont look pretty, but it'll probably work.
Easiest way to work out what thread type it is , is to take the other screw out, take it down to your hardware shop, and then try various nuts on it until you find one that fits, then you'll know what type of thread it is.

Just what I'd read on a few forums previously. I'll obviously wait and see what they say before I go out and buy something.
Also, it's a 5 year old bike - unless they are still using the same parts I'd expect them to have run out by now.
Hoping to be pleasantly surprised 🙂
Having read the above, I thought you were missing both parts - if it's just the screw, there's a good chance a local supplier can match it - take the corresponding one out of the other side and bring it to a local bolt & fixings supplier, shoulndbe able to get a matching one (and some threadlock)
It might be worth having a look here - www.canyon.com/en-gb/gear/components/spare-and-wear-parts/
There's an online chat service too.
The link looks a bit scuffed, but might still work. Ideally I'd replace both bits - if not then a cut down or replacement bolt could do the trick.
I'd expect you'll get lucky on a proper spare from canyon, or at least a spec to get a new one. It probably will be an odd size with a strange head but it probably won't be proprietary just because of the expense of making them in small numbers.
I'd also expect it to be an expensive screw.
But, more to the point. Now this one is broken, new bike!
I replaced that axle with a standard nut and bolt on my old specialized horst link. It stuck out a bit more than the proper one but it didn't interfere with anything.
I've had great service from Canyon for a spare part. Frame protection plate on a 2017 road bike got lost, emailed them and got a new one in the post a week later (no charge). Well worth contacting them
Email canyon UK, don’t worry about it you will get the parts they are very good at that side of things.
You just need the reference numbers off the technical diagram, they’ll normally send you that diagram and ask you what you want so you are one step ahead there.
I got some little bits last year for my 2013 strive, no problem. Didn’t think prices were unreasonable, maybe add anything else you might need mech hanger etc to make the post worthwhile.
I once snapped a main pivot bolt by overtightening it, the day before an uplift session. Hammered in a couple of wall plugs, used the biggest wood screw that would fit and bosched it home with an imapact driver. Took spares of everything I needed on the day, but it held together fine. Worth a bodge if you need the bike for some more gentle riding between now and when you get it properly sorted.
In the end, I just ordered the right bolts off a random hardware supplier on ebay. Lasted the next 3 years till the frame snapped elsewhere

I've already sent them a contact request via the online form - chat has been closed the last couple of times I looked (unsurprisingly, these are trying times).
I'll wait and see, with more optimism than previously 🙂
A mate managed to lose pivot bolts from his Canyon a couple of years ago. No problem getting replacements from Canyon. It wasn't that fast (took a couple of weeks from memory) but no issues.
If you can manage to get on the chat function they'll sort you out - had a similar request and they just asked what part it was on the diagram and then sorted an order out. Should imagine you'll get a response eventually through email, they're very backed up just now though - it's taken over a month to get my broken seat stays sorted.
Lols at 5lab - those kind of bodges are very satisfying when they work - I especially like the postscript about the frame snapping! 😀
But where is the expensive mistake?
Panic over, I don't need to buy a new frame :p
Eventually managed to get into chat and order new parts easily. Good work Canyon.
