Any of you guys on here that ride in Ambergate been over the far end lately (Betty Kenny's part)? I've just seen a post on Instagram about the trails and features being destroyed by the FC, so wondered if it was true and how much has gone?

I've not been out for a few weeks due to breaking my shoulder, otherwise I'd have gone to investigate.

Cheers.

Was due to ride there yesterday but a riding mate had gone a few days before and said it was un-ridable, completely chewed up. Not sure of the extent but he seemed to think it was pretty extensive.

Great. I've not heard the reason why? Shame, as you tended to get left alone by the Rangers and landowners over in that part.

We were there on Friday. The upper part above the fireroad (towards Betty Kenny's tree) is completely gone. A few of the trails are still in existence below the fireroad, but probably half have gone.

As it’s FC land, so I guess it’s time that logging is being carried out in that area.

****ers! So much time and graft has gone in to those trails. Is it downhill specific that you're after?

It won't matter a jot how much time & effort went in to them unfortunately ..when its harvest time ..everything goes .

Having witnessed similar action at Kielder (in the past)   ..and having put a fair number of man hours in terms of trail maintenance in to a section it is soul destroying when that happens ..

Being an " official" section ours got re-instated by the F.C...but reversed to become more of a down..but is nowhere near as good as the technical climb it replaced ..

Hope you get to salvage something ...

I need to go up and see because surely they're not felling the broad leaf area where all the blue bells are? That'll cause an absolute shit storm if so!

From what I could make out, it was mainly the areas with the creaky pine trees which had been felled.

Yeah, if you dig around on the FC website the management plan is up there. Still sh1t to see so much hard work ruined though.

Did a bit of digging on the FC website last night and the Forest Plan is on there for Shining Cliff and Cromford Moor. It says they’re cutting down the conifers, larch and western hemlock up in that area to be replaced with broadleaf. Apparently the conifers are invasive and they want to create diversity. It’s quite a lengthy plan by the sounds of it. Looks like it’s Morley Woods now for those of us who used that area. Such a shame after all the graft that went into building.

Morley? That would really suck, the place is a little gem.

Didn't think the FC had any interest up there though, or is it someone else?

No, Morley is safe. I just meant that those of us that used that part in Shining Cliff for our DH bikes will probably have to relocate their as it’s not that far away.

Ah, misread that - easily done as that place has been demolished a few times over the years.
