Is Amazon prime worth it, purely for the TV side of it? Are there any decent mountain bike/skiing/climbing etc programmes on it?

How does it compare to Netflix ?

think you can get a free trial on both of them so see which you prefer

I prefered Netflix slightly - no actual MTB stuff on either that i recall

Just cancelled ours, not enough content to warrant the price in my opinion

I find that I watch far more content on Amazon than I do on Netflix, and that's before you roll in the free express shipping, which is gettiing all the more handy now that they're increasingly providing free same day delivery.

For MTB content, however, there's nothing. Youtube and Red Bull TV for that.

Not really.. I sign up for a trial once every few years for some cheeky free postage.. They seem to forget after a while so you can get a free trial and then cancel it again before you get billed.

Purely for the TV (or even film) - no.

Film/TV + Music streaming + free next day delivery - yes

Though it does depend what you are interested in for film & TV. Some may find the content well worth it alone. I find it's hit and miss, but some I'm interested in. I do find it frustrating that some things expire before you've had a chance to watch them. Particularly with long TV series.

Not sure how Netflix compares as I don't want to sign up to Netflix just to have a look at what they offer. Amazon you can easily see what's on offer without being a member and make the decision. Also you can watch stuff on a PPV or buy basis that isn't on Prime, or if not a member you can do the same for any of the stuff without being a member. Netflix is subscribe or nothing.

MTB/ski/climb stuff - you'll need specialist services for that. Red Bull (free) and the like. YouTube, Vimeo, Pinkbike, and stuff like that hold plenty of interesting stuff.

Netflix is worth it if you set it up your broadband to let you access the American version. Loads of tutorials online but a bit inconvenient plus you have to spend more money (albeit a small amount considering how much extra content you are gaining) on the additional service required.

The UK version on its own is crap IMO. Not tried Amazon recently but back in 2012 it wasn't so good.

Mubi is a great alternative if you like arthouse / world cinema, as it automatically picks out a new film every day and you have 30 days to watch that film, so there's always 30 films to watch at any one time. I've discovered some great films through it, and its only a fiver a month.

I think it's worth the money as a combined package - delivery is very useful, and if you order enough then the TV / Film content effectively becomes free. I find that Amazon are very slow to deliver when you select free delivery - frustratingly so.

You can download TV / Film for offline viewing which I use a lot - as I plan to do tonight, on a dull night shift at work!

I use Amazon Prime for movies/ series occasionally but there are "better options" out there.

Mainly is the next day delivery I like. Makes me spend more sometimes no doubt but also saved my ass once or twice.

Also customer service is superb if you have a problem with a purchase, though that's only ever happened to me once.

I've recently got it and like it. I gave a hour in each direction train commute and I download films an tv to watch. Nice way to chill out after work.

Some of the TV series are excellent. The films are older, but I'm currently catching up on films I missed when they were new out.

Music is old compared to Spotify, but it's great because it's like finding a great cd collection that you haven't listened to for years.

Free post is a bonus. Last time I ordered I didn't need next day delivery so clicked standard free and they credited my account with £1 to use against non-Prime content. Not sure if this happens all the time but nice touch.

No free MTB stuff on Amazon Prime, but they do have some that you can buy / rent. It's pretty neat being able to access the longer play type MTB content straight from your TV. So far I have purchased:

UnReal - Absolutely fantastic, and totally worth the £8 to buy outright.

Reach for the Sky - Documentary on Cam Zink. Pretty interesting, worth a rent.

Ashes to Aggasiz - The most bat s#*t crazy waste of money MTB movie I have ever seen. And only 20 minutes long... give me my £3 back!

Don't care how good it is - won't spend a penny with Amazon.

They're crediting £3 a time now if you go for the "no rush" delivery option, up until the end of January I think. The credit's only any good against "soft" purchases AFAIK, like Kindle books, film rentals and MP3 downloads but you can easily accrue a handy amount for renting a few of the more current releases over the hols. Buy a few really low cost items and you'll be in profit!

Obviously if you're ordering a few things it pays to order individually, wait for the dispatch details and credit (in case they cunningly batch them!) then get the next item. As someone mentioned above though, "no rush" is pretty literal, they really do take their time.

Have had it for a year or so.

TV - teenage daughter is the main user, and she much preferred Netflix
Music - I use this a lot, and really like it.
Fast delivery - way too convenient. Use it a lot.

Overall, I'm keeping it for another year.

Bit dissapointed that Game of Thrones isn't in Prime, but otherwise happy with it. Kids love the back catalogue of films, the biggest reason for me to stick with it is that Netflix was stream only where as I can download and watch later with Amazon. Most of what I watch is done whilst travelling so easy choice for me.

the music streaming was crap compared to play music a few months ago when the wife had teh free trial. She also re-subscribed to netflix.

she is the only one bothered in our household with grown-ups TV so i bow to her superior knowledge. The kids were mortified they couldnt watch power rangers on amazon. We are not boxset junkies though (well she is more than me but still not that bad)

i have a play music subcription which i use lots.

I have prime and think it's very good value for money. The next day delivery is great and their prices are usually some of the lowest anyways. The video streaming choice is limited on latest movies but I've started watching more TV series and boxsets and finding there is lots of choice for me. The music streaming is OK not as much choice as Spotify but there are no adverts and they are adding more music. You also get online cloud storage too which a lot don't know about.

You get Red Bull TV on Amazon fire TV, don't you?

Yep but those are two separate products. You can buy a Fire TV box or dongle and not get a Prime subscription if you don't want to. Vice versa; you can get a Prime subscription without getting a Fire TV.

The Fire TV supports a massive range of apps inculuding Red Bull and Netflix. I have their new 4K Fire TV box and think it's great. Picture quality is great and easy to navigate and find content.

Definitely recommend it. Movies, music, next day delivery and free apps (on android).

Having the red bull TV app on there is handy, but as it's free and cross platform not a deal breaker.
