You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
As it asks but you must be able to fit knee pads underneath and not waterproof but do need to cover a big pair of thighs, calves and arse and not too hot for XC rides. My skin on my shins is getting a bit tissue paper like with age and diabetes and the biting insects just love my rotten blood so I get savaged and gorse etc etc shredding my shins. I have an existing pair of Altura Apex longs which are nice and light but they don't make them anymore and Enduras offerings are a touch confusing as to what they're aimed at (as well as such mixed reviews regarding sizing and the fact I couldn't even get a pair of the XXL shorts over my backside and done up).
Google doesn't seem to have been any help but I'm sure STW will ( but I ain't wearing veggie wraps either as they don't come big enough!)
What about 3/4 baggies with knee and shin pads?
I've got hard knee shin combo but not for 2-3hrs pedalling plus it still leaves skin exposed for the bloody horse flies/ mozzis that's why I'm switching back to wearing longs.
I bought some Fox riding pants (trousers) a couple of years ago after a recommendation here but can't find them now, only their heavy duty downhill versions.
Ground Effect Ranchsliders are great too - I have a pair;

Race face ambush: Utterly brilliant fit, very durable, great pocket location, can use real belt with them, good zips and vents.
I pair mine up with some endura undershorts.
