Hotlines have told me they don't expect any more WTB tyres into the UK this year. I run a 27.5 x 2.8 Tough Fast Vigilante on the back. What available alternatives in dual ply flavour would you recommend? I guess the catch in this question is the word "available".
Run a lighter tyre with an insert?
I was always a WTB Tough/Fast fan on the back, but I bought some of the WTB Light Bridgers that CR have on sale for £11.99 and fitted an insert.
It's held up well so far, and I like the tyre's grip & and feel too.
Size wise it comes up at 2.9" on a 40mm rim.

Specialized? Black diamond is fairly tough albeit not quite as tough as the WTB tough (not sure much is).
I find the butcher a pretty reasonable rear tire. Not too draggy.
2.6 eliminator here for £30 odd if you can go with a 2.6.

I don’t think there’s many tough plus tyres really.
