I need some longer hose for a pair of Shimano Deore M615 disc brakes.
Buying the Shimano kit(s) appears rather expensive, albeit with all the bits and pieces, so very handy.
I have the necessary fittings - barbs, banjo, etc.
What alternative hose can I buy by the metre to use?
Thanks all.
can't help with hose but while you are at it you can use car LHM fluid instead of the shimano unicorn tears as brake fluid. Its the same mineral oil.
I just got a litre for £5 from acecarparts on ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191712702377
Bear in mind that the barbs need to match the hose. Even Shimano do two different sizes that need different barbs.
re fluid, I've only ever had Shimano seal problems when using generic LHM. Using Shimano mineral oil I've had zero problems across 5 sets of brakes.
When I got my first disc brake bike back in 2004 , the mechanic in Halfords of all places told me not to waste money on Shimano fluid and buy a bottle of ATF particularly the stuff made for Citroens. This has worked flawlessly over 8-9 bikes with Shimano brakes.
As for hose most bike shops have a drum of the stuff they will cut to length bearing in mind internal diameter. One of my bikes has Hope hose on Shimano with no problems.
Shimano hose is available to buy off the reel.
I use Uberbikes brake hose, available in colours, the internal ID is 2.1mm though.
Shimano hose is available to buy off the reel.
Didn't know you could just buy the hose, I thought the hose crimped on at the banjo end or is it push fit on to the banjo?
Nope, it is a crimped on fitting, so if you have a banjo then you have to buy the correct kit (or bodge in something from a different manufacturer, maybe).
