I'd like a Cotic BFe but at 6'5" I need the large, which is out of stock and I'm struggling to find one second hand.

What alternatives can you recommend. New or second hand, but needs to be large enough to pedal while fun for playing about on, with max budget of £300 (give or take). Thanks.

I think there is a new BFe batch due in at the end of the month.

There is a rumour that they will have the 44 head tube and be available in green.

Personally I'd wait... just in case 🙂

Sorry for being stupid, but what's a 44mm head tube?

there are alternatives such as this

but if you want to stick with steel there, you don't have a great number of choices

44 head tube is the 44mm head tube that's on the Solaris and Rocket.

It allows you to fit tapered or normal fork steerers.

I think that it also significantly increases the strength without a resulting huge weight penalty.

And personally I think aesthetically it's an improvement on the tapered HT.

JE; you're welcome.

If you are interested then I'd contact Cy or Paul direct for confirmation. My info came via a shop/dealer and is thus unconfirmed. That said he's usually pretty reliable...

Email from Paul @ Cotic confirms things:

We have a new BFe coming into stock in about 3 weeks and there will be large sizes available. The new frame will have a 44mm headtube and cowled dropouts. Colours will be gloss black or bright green and the price is expected to be £350.

Just got a BFe. Worth the wait I'd say. Gloss black you say... Stop it.

kelvin - already have one, gritstone - bloody love it 🙂

The only thing I wish it had was a replaceable hanger in the event mine gets smashed. But the 44mm headtube would be a nice addition.

What's the benefits of the cowled dropouts?

Cowled dropouts cost more and mean you cant tow a kiddie trailer. Well not without cutting them which isn't ideal.

44mm gives more fork options definitely. But I can't help but think it looks a bit ugly - from looking at the solaris that big ol' headtube just doesn't look right.

Prezet, I believe that the Gritstone colour is carrying on...

44mm headtube looks really good on Solaris/BFe/Rocket due to the wide flattened toptube that it's paired with (in my opinion), might well look odd on something with a slim toptube and/or downtube I suppose.

Think gritstone is going, and they're moving to the gloss black, like the Soul by the sounds of things.

You can with this hitch. I rotated mine another 90degrees anti clockwise so the hitch thing was at 6 oclock, happy days.

Right then, this new BFe, anyone know what the heatube length will be?

Toys the hitch on mine (my kids) isn't like that and will only work in the 3 o'clock position.

Doen't matter to me now anyway because my eldist has moved on to a tag-a-long.

the difference between a BFe and a 456 is similar to that between Braised seafood Noodles from crystal jade, and a chow mein pot noodle.

Alternatives?
Unfortunately Transition trans am frames are also sold out, their large is bigger than the bfe which would be perfect for you.
But also 200 quid more! Sadly no green trans am.
Dialled Prince Albert worth a look.
I had a Kona Hoss a few years ago which kick started my love for Kona. Great for bigger riders.
Now I ride a Cowan 17.5 inch which is set up for North downs. It's almost too small but works well.
I'm 6'4, 17.5 stone. 38in waist etc. Can't climb but get in my way on a descent and you'll know you've been tangoed.
I'm definitely going to check out the new large bfe, tapered steered tube....
Suits you, sir!
