I can’t find a Oneup v2 dropper in 180mm size in stock anywhere - I was planning to use this on a Santa Cruz 5010 2019 I’m building for a mate.

A brand x is an obvious alternative (if I can get enough of it in the frame) - is there anything else with a similar low stack to the Oneup that isn’t ludicrously expensive?

Kind of ruling out the Fox Transfer / Bikeyoke Revive / Reverb / any kind of KS / Thompson on cost grounds.

Is the Crank Brothers high line any good?

I've just bought a PNW Ridge 125mm post only (no lever) for £100 and the quality of the post is better than the brandx.

For £125 you can pick up the PNW Rainer, designed for home servicing, with Lever.

Either from thier EU site or Amazon.

The Crank Bros post is good and has a low stack height (not as low as the one up though), but it does return quite slowly.

SDG tellis is excellent, if it comes in the length you want.

+1 for the sdg tellis.

Mine is rock solid. No twist or rattle. Cheap as chips too.

It's the Bird a rebranded, BX?

I think the Bird is a re-branded Brand X - certainly looks like it.

Most of the PNW droppers seem to be coil spring inside other than the ‘bachelor’. Couldn’t find one of those in stock.

I liked the look of the SDG but my googling failed to find a 170/180mm drop one in stock. After measuring the frame I don’t think a 200mm brand x / bird dropper would let the saddle get low enough. Oneup might have squeezed the longer model in with the option to space it down 20mm if not.

Ended up just going 170mm brand x and hope it fits!

I had a 150mm Transfer - Spot on until it started to return too slow. Probably only needs the nitrogen refilled but nowhere will do that without a full service. I would have just used air, but can't even find the adaptor to fill it. Shame, as it's a lovely post.

I've replaced it with a OneUp 210mm V2 shimmed down to 190mm which gives a load more usable drop. Did try the 170mm Brand X from the BFe but the stack height made it longer than both the Transfer and the OneUp

@joebristol

I'm 99% did you can make/bit spacers to limit the extensive of the BX droppers. Been posts ok here in the past. You certainly used to be able to fit the plastic OneUp ones/make them from thin bit of plastic.

The OneUp is a rebranded BX, more or less, same internals. PNW Rainier uses the same sort of internals also (same cartridge manufacturer), not a coil spring.

@poopscoop - that’s good to know - I think I’ve got a box somewhere with the spacers that came with my 180mm Oneup dropper (that I didn’t need) - maybe if required I can dig those out and see if they’ll fit in the Brand X one.

Cheers for the heads up!

Incidentally I think the brand x droppers have a better top seal than the one up version. Never had to touch my 120/150mm brand x droppers but the Oneup I have to personally unscrew the top collar and pull the white bush up and clean it / grease it to keep it working smoothly. Last time I did that the bush looked a bit chipped / worn so I think I might have to do a full service on it soon. Maybe that’s the price to pay for the lower stack height?

@joebristol The v2 OneUp uses a different mechanism to reduce the travel than the v1 @poopscoop is referring to and hence the shim won't work with the BrandX unless the design of the BrandX has similarly been updated.

Interestingly the Canyon Iridium OEM post also shares the OneUp/BrandX/etc. internals and whilst it used to take the v1 OneUp shim it's now been updated to the v2 OneUp design. However, it doesn't have space for extra pins to reduce the travel like OneUp v2 does. I suppose OneUp may have an exclusive deal with the manufacturer because I can't see why it would be cheaper to produce them without the ability to reduce the travel.

Last time I did that the bush looked a bit chipped / worn

I've not had any issues with dirt ingress, the OneUp seals seem to be very good but does the bushing wear look like this by any chance?bushing wear. Mine seems to have a problem where the bushing gets dented by the pins.

I don't think it's necessarily the same manufacturer, just the same cartridge supplier

I just bought a 210mm OneUp from bike-components.de, stock has just appeared today, might have 180s too

The new BX droppers you cannot shim down which I found out to my cost. I bought a 150mm BX post with the intention of lowering it to about 133mm drop. Couldn't do it. I couldn't find a 120mm post at the time and I thought I was being clever and future proofing a move to another frame.

To make it fit I bought a lower stack saddle (wtb silverado) and a oneup replacement clamp kit, which now allows me to use the full 150mm drop with the post slammed in the seat tube.

Yes it's a more costly route but it will gain you about 17mm if there are no other options.
