My mate missed out on the £300 whippet frames on Planet X a couple of weeks ago and the new one is double the price. He needs a frame so is thinking of just paying the £600 for the new whippet which I think is a bit steep. Does anyone have an alternative option must be 29er and more xc than enduro.

Sonder Dial is the obvious one.

Bit more but reasonably good value still. Definitely XC end geo.

Trek Marlin? £350 for the frame or just get a full bike and upgrade the bits you don't want/need?

Or go Chinese, there's a cool looking BXT one with nice slack angles and dropped stays. Few early reports of the seatclamp joint cracking, but not seen anything recent (like all chinese stuff no news probably means they're durable).

Really pleased with my Dial, but even with XT groupset and some decent wheels it's still rather heavy...

Airwolf - still happy with mine. Was also interested in the Whippet back when they did them super cheap in the first lockdown but dithered too long. Bit of a wait for it to arrive from China though.

Yeah, I've been eyeing up a few Chinese xc frames - some of the Trek stache lookalikes are tempting.
