I like the burliness but would prefer something slightly more compliant, needs to be able to take 150mm forks.
Stanton, but make sure it fits you 😆
i'm not sure any hardtail that will take 150mm forks is going to be that compliant

I thought it was ideal at 18" and Stu's comment that it doesn't feel like it climbs too well makes me think it might not be the right thing for me.

I know but any improvement would be an improvement, I just find the BFe a bit lifeless.
if you were willing to go to some slightly shorter forks, say 130-140mm a Soul or Prince Albert would be more compliant (due to the thinner wall thickness).
Dialled Alpine. Bloody ace little bike.
Have a spin on the Slackline for a start.
Then how about a Soul. Same numbers as the BFe but lighterer etc.
Your Slackline looks a little big tbh but I'll give it a whirl. I could run the Rev's with a spacer.
Choices choices
Have you considered a Chromag Aperture 😆
What travel are the Rvs? my Pikes are 150mm. Stanton angles are quoted with a 140mm fork but it'll take a 150 no problem.
Not ridden one but I do fancy a Chromag
Slackline and Alpine aren't very compliant. Slackline a bit more so than a BFe but still not much.
Ti 456? (or <recommend what you own> Ragley Ti? (with a shorter fork, a Ti with 140mm is more capable than a BFe with 150 or 160). And hopefully not too expensive
Dialled Prince Albert.
When I bought my BFe (2012) there where lots of stories about them being harsh so I got a PA Classic in case (there was a special deal for the Classic).
That being said I have never found my BFe harsh and even if it where a little you could tweek that with seatpost / tyre pressures. OP try a BFe before you buy into the harsh spin.
Transition Trans-am
I've had a Blue Pig in the past and thought that was more comfortable than the Soul I have now, therefore it would definitely be more compliant than the BFe. Blue pig with 150mm forks is superb !
Jambalaya - I have a BFe now.
I've just realised, Stu's had all of these bikes at least once, I'll pick his brain over a beer next thursday.
When you say compliant, what do you mean?
If you mean give in the rear end then the Slackline is forgiving in that respect. I find the 18" with 50mm stem spot on for reach. I've only ridden it a few times so far but it feels better than my full suss for climbing but still a bit of a tank. That however could be due to the massive DH style tyres. Takes up to a 160mm fork and at 150mm it feels fine to me.
It's still a 29lb hardtail at the end of the day so "burliness" yes. Sprightly (uphill) no!
A more compliant BFe? That'll be a Soul then.
Had a dialled alpine briefly. When I rode it I yearned for my old bfe
