Got a family weekend in Alston coming up with the in-laws.

I’ve had a look on Trailforks and Strava and it doesn’t look like there’s any decent riding there (MTB/eMTB).

Anyone know of either a nice easy loop to do with Mrs ColP or a decent Lakes style route near there?

I'd be googling Cross Fell and High Cup Nick if I were you.

You can also head over the pass to the wear valley and be in hamseterley in 30 50 mins.

You could head north on the South Tyne Trail (follows the old railway line) to Knarsdale, drop down to Eals Bridge then follow the bridlepath via The Bog Farm, Parson Shields to Williamson then follow the road (very quiet) past Barhaugh Hall back to Alston.

Garrigill to Teeshead and back.

Avoid the bridlepaths on Middle Rigg (north east towards carrshield) they are pretty none existent.

Cross Fell from Garrigill (watch out if its windy can be relentless up there).

Hexham Common - over towards Whitley Chapel and back.

Cow green Reservoir to High Cup Nick

I did this loop from Alston. There's a fair bit of road and the off-road is mostly doubletrack, but it's a decent option with a less confident partner , with the bonus of a good cafe half way around.

Also did this loop up the south the trail
