I have a PUSHed RP2 on my pitch which came with the bike 2nd hand.
If it's already been PUSHed, will it 'stay' pushed with a basic service, assuming none of the PUSH parts or major parts need replaced?
and therefore, does it have to go to TFT or can mojo/LoCo do it?
ta
Any one can service them, it's only a different piston and shim stack generally so you can get in done cheaper elsewhere 😉 the tune can also be adjusted if necessary.
I wonder about tunes. I have an RP2 on my Trek Fuel and although it's good, can it be better? How would I know what I want? It's supple, good platform etc.
How do I tell if it could be better?
LoCo?
If you're not sure what you want I'll take into account all factors, so how much you weight, where and what terrain you ride, how the bike linage works and how the valving on the shock works e.t.c and tune it for you from that.
As with just about everything it can always be improved and better adjusted to suit your needs. 😀
Sorry that last sentance was very cheesy, cringing a bit now 😳
EDIT: it also gets a sticker..
Well LoCo mate, I'd like you to make it better... It probably does need a service anyway. I bought it 'on bike' a year ago and I doubt it's been done since new, 2008 model. 😳
I'm 12 stones flat. I ride faster than most others I ride with and terrain is mostly sandy, rocky (not beachy) singletrack. It doesn't bottom out, feels mostly supple and pro-pedal is a well used feature.
Like I said, bike is an 2008 Trek Fuel EX8 with medium compression tune RP2.
Thoughts?
Edit
Can you make it really supple without it bobbing when I pedal?
Firstly if it's never been serviced, it's well overdue as the oil will have degraded a fair bit and will have less damping due to this along with possibly a bit of cavitation.
Inaddition to fresh seals, oil, lube and gas an 'tidy' of the pistons and shims will again increse performance.
The low speed compression can be increased to reduce pedal bob and the 'plushness' can be maintained through a couple of mods, we'd also have a look at the rebound circuits to improve them along with some possible porting on the piston.
Any further questions feel fre to mail me or call the workshop. 😀
Hope that all makes sense, bit late off to bed now.
thanks loco, that's what i suspected.
sound like i'm after something similar to robsoctane:
i'd like it tuned with more of a platform on the pro pedal to reduce bob: low speed compression circuit?
and i'd like better small bump compliance (over roots etc): high speed compression? is that correct?
am i right in thinking that low and high speed are 2 seperate circuits on a pushed shock and therefore both can be achieved?
nother question:
i'm talking about pro-pedal mode here. how does all this relate to when the shock is in open mode?
and another: when people talk about the compression tune on a shock, like robsoctane above, are they lumping high and low speed comp together to describe the overall character of the tune as required by frame and rider weight etc?
cheers loco. expertise appreciated!
The low speed can be increased, the sensitivity for square edged bumps can also be adjusted.
The Push stacks vary so will have to see what the current state of tune is to assess where changes can be made.
The compression tune refers to the high speed but propedal can have different tunes on it to which has an effect on both the low and high speed circuits.
The rebound tune is also a dual stage stack so the tune on that will vary, there are several different models of of the RP series (belleville shimmed earlier models (few types) and the boost valve ones which have different'boost pressures' too)
Then you'd have to look at the air can size and whether volume spacers have been added too)
So there's a few factors that control how the shock performs. 😀
cheers, starting to understand
thanks for taking the time
looks liek you've got yourself another customer 😉
I can confirm Loco can turn a cheap standard shock into a still cheap most excellent shock. Had both Fox coil and air shocks tuned by Loco and both made significant improvements for alot less money than Push/ Kashima upgrades.
