Looking for ideas of either lift assisted places to ride or overnight hut bivvies. Or people who would divulge that info in exchange for money - guiding companies etc?
Les Arcs was excellent but the Funi being closed meant a lot of the bottom trails were difficult to ride constantly. Have been to La Thuille, Les Houches, Meribel, Samoens so looking for non-bikepark techy singletrack.
Have thought about doing some backcountry overnight bivvy but not sure where to start with that idea.
There's a few in Italy in the dolomites and the Alps. Never been to any but know a few people that have. Not sure about the French Alps. This one in the dolomites from ww1 popped into my feed a while back:
I’ve just done a point-to-point tour with WhiteroomMTB, around the Tarentaise valley, where we stayed in a couple of refuges as part of the trip. One on Mount Jovet, the second in Gittamelon. Most of the riding was techs backcountry singletrack. I think there are quite a few refuges in the Alps, some more basic than others. We bumped into another group, from Reunion, who were doing a similar tour but staying in refuges every night, so it’s totally possible.
I've ridden across the alps more times than I care to remember.... Used to guide taking groups from Bavaria over the alps to Lago di Garda or Como. I've ridden five times on my own (literally) or with friends.
When guiding it was a mix of hotels, B&Bs and huts.
The problem with the huts is that you rarely get your own room and have to sleep in a stinking dorm with 20 smelly, sweaty, snoring walkers. Honestly, it's grim.
Have taken a isomat, sleeping bag and tarp a couple of times. Eat late in town and then disappear up the valley into the hills. You can usually find a decent place to sleep...
Never had a problem other than the time my mate punctured my mat and I was left sleeping on the floor.
