Planning an Alps trip or similar for mid-Sept. Lifts will be closed by then but is there anywhere we could a) get uplifts or b) get good riding in without endless firetrack climbs?

Anyone got any ideas or experience?

Zermatt - we spent the first week in October there & everything was open, three main lifts, plenty of lift assisted XC/FR type stuff.

I think the main lift in Verbier remains on daily opening until late September, and later than that for weekend opening.

If you buy a copy of Dirt there's a voucher in there for bogof lift passes too.

All the Swiss Alps resorts stay open 'till well into October.

Ah, thanks all. I assumed all lifts closed by early Sept. Will look at Verbier.

Finale is tempting, too, but a long way to drive, which is our preferred option

Switzerland is affordable if you are earning swiss francs or have a credit card from mummy and daddy.

Switzerland doesn't have to be that expensive. You just need to know where to look.

Been with Rivierabike and loved it but looking at other options too. White Room is full when I'm free.
Seems the lifts in Chatel stay open a bit longer. Anyone got experience of riding there?

And @ir12daveor - go on, where should I look? 🙂

I've been to Verbier before with MTB Verbier and it's amazing. Looking to go back between the 16th - 19th of August on the cheap this time without a guide - anyone have good suggestions for single track XC routes? There are 2 of us and we'd dig to hook up with other riders on a similar mission.

The White Room. Lift was open only one day at Les Arcs and the rest was van and Landrover assisted.

From June. Was awesome as always.

You can pay extra if you like, no worries. 😉

I rode Zermatt for a day last month and loved it, but, as people above have said, its very expensive - especially the lifts

However, its a great place - full of weird little electric vehicles - its like Thomas the Tank Engine on acid

Also, its also completely full of retro classic MTBs just left against walls

Moreover - you are riding some of the best trails in Europe under the shadow of the Matterhorn. Proper Epic!
