Ok,

I know people are saying the bearings last forever but mine need replacing and there's very little information out there on how/what to do. I've ordered the bearings from Orange as well as bushings, mounting hardwear for the shock and a DU tool all ready to go.

After taking the end caps off I'm now wondereing what the next step is?

There's a black central section the end cap screws into that sits inside the bearing that appears to go through the pivot. Is this the case or am I misinterpreting what I'm seeing? Does this need to be pushed out? Or does the swingarm just come away from the frame.

Does anyone know of a tech sheet for the bearing assembly?

As you can tell I'm in need of a little help, any would be gratefully received.

Cheers

Patrick

Look for an mbr workshop type guide or you tube orange five bearing swap as it's the same design

It's not the same as a five, the bearings are on a shaft, you need to take both the black caps off and hammer the shaft through with a drift and a mallet.

And yes there is little info on the web on how to do it but it is the same design as the 222 and 223 downhill frames.

Thanks guys.

The common mistake is that it's the same as the 5, I got the same advice from 3 different orange dealers who told me it was the same as a 5! As liftman says it's not.

I would thoroughly recommend phoning orange direct. they were truly amazing when I phoned them, posted me a tech doc and some free washers that I had mangled in the removal process, excellent customer service. Very impressed.

So briefly;

1. remove bolts and end caps.
2. screw bolt back in a few threads then using soft hammer drift out thee shaft that runs through the bearings and the body of the frame.
3. retain the two washers that sit between the main frame and the swing arm for reuse.
4. bash out bearings - replace with shiny new ones.
5. grease the inside of the bearings and place washers there.
6. re-site the swing arm and drift the axle back into place
7. Replace end-caps and screws with shiny new ones, adding a touch of loctite to be sure.

Success all round

Patrick
